Chiel van der Veen

Professor Chiel van der Veen serves as Lector (Professor) of Urban Care & Education at Windesheim University of Applied Sciences' Social Innovations Flevoland knowledge center in Almere since 2022. Concurrently, he holds an associate professor position in the Department of Pedagogical and Educational Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

His research centers on classroom dialogue in primary and higher education, learning through play, and development of children's social skills including oral communication, theory of mind, and social status. He emphasizes translating research into educational practice through collaboration with teachers and educators to address regional challenges like educational quality under staff shortages, education-care collaboration complexities, and basic skills deficiencies among Almere children.

Prof. van der Veen actively contributes to academic discourse through involvement with the Dutch Association of Pedagogues and Educationalists (NVO), childandfamilyblog.com, and editorial roles in journals including De Wereld van het Jonge Kind, Pedagogiek, and the International Journal of Educational Research Open.
