Chiara Milanese is an Associate Professor of Applied Biology at Saint Camillus International University of Health and Medical Sciences in Rome, Italy. She holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Turin and has held research positions at institutions including the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Erasmus MC Rotterdam, and the AIRC Institute of Molecular Oncology (IFOM) in Milan.
Education:
- MSc Medicine and Surgery (LM-41) – University of Rome
- MSc Medicine and Surgery (LM-41) – University of Cefalù
- PhD in Neuroscience – University of Turin
Research Interests: Dr. Milanese focuses on molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Parkinson’s disease. Her work explores DNA damage repair, transcriptional stress, redox homeostasis, and genomic integrity in neuronal systems. She uses models ranging from animal studies to patient-derived iPSCs to investigate therapeutic strategies.
Awards:
- Fondazione Umberto Veronesi Award
Advising & Grants: Supervised multiple PhD/postdoc students across Europe/US. Active peer reviewer for scientific journals and collaborator in international research networks.
Labs/Teams: Previously part of Dr. Mastroberardino’s Molecular Genetics team (Erasmus MC) and the AIRC IFOM Molecular Oncology group.
