Chiara Lacroix is a Researcher in the Department of History at the European University Institute, having joined the institution in 2022. She holds dual French and Italian nationality and works under the supervision of Professor Monika Baar, with Lauren Kassell serving as her second reader.
Her research focuses on the intersections of medical history, gender studies, and cultural transformations during Europe's transition to modernity. Key areas include historical perspectives on medicine, scientific thought, gender and sexuality, and cultural developments. Her work examines how aesthetic and health considerations shaped European modern identity.
Her recent publications demonstrate expertise in historical reproductive concepts and anthropological thought. The 2024 article explores historical ideas about humanity in reproduction studies during the 18th-19th centuries, while her 2022 work analyzes Edward Tylor's contributions to Victorian thought on human diversity. These publications reflect her methodological approach bridging medical history with cultural and gender analyses.
As part of Monika Baar's supervisees at the EUI Department of History, Lacroix contributes to scholarly conversations about European historical development through her specialized research on embodiment, medical knowledge, and cultural transformations.
