Chiaka Akarichi

Chiaka Akarichi, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center since 2020. She specializes in acute and reconstructive burn surgery and surgical critical care. Dr. Akarichi is certified by the American Board of Surgery in both general surgery and surgical critical care.

Education: Medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School (M.D.), residency in general surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine/Hahnemann University Hospital, and fellowships in burn surgery (Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine) and surgical critical care (New York Medical College/Westchester Medical Center).

Research interests focus on burn injury management, surgical techniques in reconstructive burns, and critical care interventions. She actively publishes and presents in these areas though specific articles are not listed here.

Award recipient of the Merck Manual Award from Dartmouth Medical School. Professional memberships include the American Burn Association, American College of Surgeons, Society of Critical Care Medicine, Association for Women Surgeons, and Society of Black Academic Surgeons.
