Dr. Giavonni Lewis is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Utah and serves as Medical Director of the University of Utah Health Burn Center. She specializes in acute burn care, burn reconstruction, surgical critical care, and trauma management. Dr. Lewis leads a multidisciplinary team focused on comprehensive burn treatment and has formal training in both burn surgery and critical care.
Her education includes a B.S. in Biology/Chemistry from Barry University, M.D. from Tufts University School of Medicine, general surgery residency at Loyola University Medical Center, burn surgery fellowship at University of Washington, surgical critical care fellowship at Washington Hospital Center, and an M.S.C.I. in Clinical Investigation from the University of Utah.
Dr. Lewis's research focuses on thermal injuries, wound healing, burn immunology, and critical care interventions. Her work spans clinical trials for burn treatments, COVID-19 therapeutics using amniotic fluid, healthcare utilization patterns after thermal injuries, and immune responses in burn trauma. She maintains particular expertise in pediatric burns, frostbite, necrotizing infections, and patient-centered outcomes research.
