Cheryl A Kettler

Cheryl A Kettler serves as Associate Professor of Fundamentals of Lawyering at George Washington University Law School. With 35 years of legal practice across large firms, medium firms, and solo practice, she brings extensive real-world experience to legal education.

Her teaching portfolio includes Introduction to Legal Research and Writing for 1Ls and 2Ls, Advanced Civil Litigation, Transactional Drafting, and specialized seminars for Writing Fellows and teaching fellows. She has held significant administrative roles including Acting Director of the GW Law Writing Center and Scholarly Writing Program during the 2020-21 academic year.

Professor Kettler's research interests focus on legal pedagogy and practical lawyering skills development. Her career spans business planning, tax law, administrative law, litigation, and appellate work, with additional experience as general counsel for a hospitality management company and consultant for law firm talent acquisition.

She earned her BA from George Washington University and JD from Catholic University of America, where she graduated first in her class, served as Editor-in-Chief of the law review, and won Best Oral Advocate in the Wagner Cup competition.

Professor Kettler actively mentors students requiring academic and financial support, having helped hundreds of young attorneys master legal fundamentals throughout her teaching career at GW Law and Georgetown University.
