Cheryl Dyer Berg serves as Professor of Legal Writing and Director of the Legal Research, Analysis, and Writing Program at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. She joined the faculty after twelve years in private practice at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal's San Francisco office, where she represented corporate clients in complex civil litigation and appellate matters across state and federal courts.
Her educational background includes:
- B.A. in English from Georgetown University (1990)
- J.D. from UC Berkeley School of Law (1993)
Professor Berg's expertise centers on practical legal writing and research instruction, informed by her litigation and intellectual property practice. She directs the core program responsible for training law students in legal analysis, brief writing, and courtroom advocacy skills essential for professional practice. Her professional trajectory bridges high-stakes litigation experience with legal education pedagogy.
