Dr Charlotte de Mille is an Associate Lecturer at The Courtauld Institute of Art and curator of its music programme. She specializes in interdisciplinary studies at the intersection of art history, musicology, and philosophy, with a focus on modernism and the influence of figures like Henri Bergson. Her work bridges artistic and musical practices, as seen in projects like Animating Art History (with Central Saint Martins and the University for the Creative Arts). She has been recognized for her public engagement, including a 2018 St Andrews University Award for the Virginia Woolf and Music project. Her research explores topics such as Bergson’s philosophy in British art, music’s role in avant-garde movements, and cross-media collaborations.
Dr de Mille has held fellowships at the Paul Mellon Centre for British Art (2020–2021) and was a Visiting Scholar at Lingnan University, Hong Kong (2018). She has curated exhibitions like Out of Time and contributed to major museum projects, including those at the Tate and National Gallery. Her publications include Bergson in Britain: Philosophy and Modern Art 1890–1914 (2023) and co-edited volumes like The Bloomsbury Handbook to Music and Art (2023). Her work emphasizes global historical contexts and interdisciplinary approaches to cultural studies.
