Dr. Charlotte Knowles is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Groningen, specializing in feminist philosophy, phenomenology, and social/political philosophy. Her research focuses on complicity in gendered contexts, exploring agency, responsibility, and freedom. She holds a PhD from Birkbeck College, University of London, and has held positions at Birkbeck and Oxford Brookes.
Her work bridges Heideggerian phenomenology and feminist theory, addressing issues like gendered violence testimony and adaptive preferences. She is a member of the Centre for Gender Studies and a SCOOP fellow, supervising projects on complicity and feminist empowerment. Charlotte has received the Robert Papzian Essay Prize (2020) and a KNAW Early Career Award (2023). She co-edits Hypatia: A Journal of Feminist Philosophy and contributes to public philosophy via columns in The Philosophers’ Magazine.
