Dr. Charlotte Backerra is a prominent early modern historian currently serving as a Research Assistant in the Department of Medieval and Modern History at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. She holds a visiting fellowship at the CRC 138 'Dynamics of Security' (2022-2025) and has previously worked at TU Darmstadt, University of Stuttgart, and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
Her research focuses on the intersection of monarchical studies, economic history, and diplomatic practices in early modern Europe. Key areas include dynastic finance, gender dynamics in royal contexts, and environmental impacts of historical events.
Her recent publications analyze economic strategies of Holy Roman Empire dynasties, confessional diplomacy, and climate history during the Little Ice Age. She contributes to international research networks including the Premodern Diplomats Network and Royal Studies Network.
