Charlie Wilson is an Honorary Professor at the University of East Anglia's School of Environmental Sciences and holds a visiting researcher affiliation with the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. His career spans academia, policy, and private-sector roles in renewable energy finance and climate policy. He has contributed to major international assessments including IPCC reports and the Global Energy Assessment.
Education: PhD in Resource Management and Environmental Sustainability from the University of British Columbia (2004-2008), with postdoctoral research at IIASA (Austria) and Chalmers University (Sweden). Earlier roles include Teaching Fellow at the London School of Economics and private-sector experience in energy finance (1994-2004).
Research Interests: Focuses on energy transitions, pro-environmental behavior, and climate policy. Works at both systemic levels (historical energy transitions, integrated assessment modeling) and micro-levels (technology adoption, smart home innovations). Current projects include NAVIGATE (H2020), iDODDLE (ERC), and EnergyREV (EPSRC).
Grants & Collaborations: Lead or co-investigator on 14 projects funded by EU Horizon 2020, ESRC, and EPSRC. Collaborations include the International Energy Agency and UK Committee on Climate Change.
Labs/Teams: Coordinated the Tyndall Centre's Accelerating Social Transformation theme and contributes to the Environmental Change Institute at Oxford. Active in cross-disciplinary networks linking engineering, social science, and policy.
