Charlie White is the Regina and Marlin Miller Head of School and Professor of Art at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Art. He holds a BFA from the School of Visual Arts (1995) and an MFA from Art Center College of Design (1998). A Yale Norfolk Summer Program Fellow (1994), White has over 20 years of artistic practice and 14 years in academia, bridging art-making, pedagogy, and administration.
His research interests span photography, film, animation, and digital media theory, with a focus on representation, cultural critique, and interdisciplinary experimentation. His work has been exhibited globally, including solo shows at the Andrea Rosen Gallery, Los Angeles County Museum, and Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art. His monographs include Such Appetite (2013) and American Minor (2009).
Previously at USC’s Roski School of Art and Design, White led the MFA program and developed a technology-driven digital imaging curriculum. He has collaborated with renowned artists like Sharon Lockhart and Frances Stark. His non-institutional projects include the pop album Music For Sleeping Children and the critical journal The Enemy.
His work has been featured in Artforum, Exit, and The New Yorker, and included in group exhibitions such as the Singapore Biennial and the Guggenheim Museum’s Art in America Now. His films have screened at Sundance and Cannes Director’s Fortnight.
