Charlie Tweed is the Subject Leader for Art at Bath Spa University's Bath School of Art, Film and Media. He leads the Material: Art and Technology Research Group and is a media artist specializing in digital media practice and culture. His work critiques computational capitalism’s ecological and social impacts through re-appropriation, speculative fiction, and hybrid personas. Exhibitions include The Stanley Picker Gallery, Spike Island, and WRO Media Art Biennale. He organizes the Digital Ecologies symposia series and collaborates with scientists via Wellcome Trust-funded projects. Awards include the Wellcome Trust Large Arts Award and Galerie Klatovy Klenova Prize.
Research interests focus on systems of control, fictional methods in critical practice, and sci-art collaboration. Education includes a PhD from Kingston University, MFA from Goldsmiths, and MA/BA from Oxford Brookes. External roles include PhD examiner and co-editor of The International Journal of Creative Media Research. Notable works include Notes From the Subsurface (2020) and the Fiction Machines series.
