معرفی
Charles Obrien is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine, with a secondary appointment in Orthopaedics. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of bone remodeling, particularly osteocyte regulation of RANKL signaling in osteoporosis and musculoskeletal diseases.
Dr. Obrien's research spans Bone Biology, Osteoporosis, Musculoskeletal Diseases, Aging and Bone, and Molecular Endocrinology of Bone. His seminal work established osteocytes as the primary source of RANKL for physiological and pathological bone remodeling, with key contributions to understanding glucocorticoid-induced bone loss and estrogen-deficiency effects.
Analysis of his 2020-2025 publications reveals dominant themes in osteocyte biology, cellular senescence in age-related bone loss, and therapeutic mechanisms of denosumab/romosozumab. His work increasingly integrates single-cell technologies and CRISPR-based approaches to dissect cell-type-specific pathways in bone metastasis and skeletal development.
Dr. Obrien serves as Principal Investigator for the NIH-funded Center for Musculoskeletal Disease Research (CMDR; P20GM125503) and leads an R01 grant (R01AR049794) on osteocyte control of bone remodeling. His laboratory within the CMDR develops transgenic models to investigate RANKL regulation and bone cell interactions, with recent work spanning from basic molecular mechanisms to translational applications in osteoporosis treatment.
