Professor Charles Hulme is affiliated with Oxford Brookes University as a Professor of Psychology in the School of Psychology, Social Work and Public Health. His work focuses on reading, language, and memory development, particularly phonological skills' role in literacy acquisition. He co-developed the Nuffield Early Language Intervention (NELI) programme, which has impacted over 10,000 schools and hundreds of thousands of children in England.
