معرفی
Charles Hulme is a Professor affiliated with the Institute for Learning Sciences and Teacher Education (ILSTE) within the Faculty of Education and Arts. His research focuses on developmental language and reading disorders, with a particular emphasis on dyslexia, language interventions, and the cognitive foundations of literacy. He has contributed extensively to understanding the genetic and environmental factors influencing reading difficulties and has led numerous randomized controlled trials evaluating educational interventions.
His work spans domains such as early childhood language enrichment, phonological awareness training, and scalable educational programs. Key collaborations include studies on genome-wide associations for reading disabilities and cross-linguistic comparisons of reading development. Hulme’s research also addresses the intersection of language skills and arithmetic development, as well as interventions for children with Down syndrome and developmental language disorders.
Through his publications, he critiques the efficacy of working memory training and emphasizes the critical role of oral language in reading comprehension. His findings have shaped policy recommendations for language screening and intervention in schools. Hulme’s interdisciplinary approach bridges cognitive science, education, and neuroscience to advance evidence-based practices in child development.
