Charith Cooray

Charith Cooray is an Associate Professor and Clinical Neurophysiologist at the Karolinska Institutet, affiliated with the Department of Clinical Neuroscience. His clinical and research roles focus on non-invasive intracranial pressure estimation, blood biomarkers for stroke subtypes, and transcranial Doppler applications in neurointensive care. He leads a research group exploring neurophysiological techniques for brain dysfunction detection.

Cooray's research spans clinical neurophysiology, merging ultrasound-based diagnostics with stroke outcome analysis. His work emphasizes optic nerve sheath diameter as a biomarker for intracranial hypertension and severe Covid-19 outcomes, alongside quantitative pupillometry and stroke reperfusion therapies. Collaborations include SciLife Lab and international institutions.

Key students under his supervision include Jakob Pansell (dissertation on non-invasive intracranial pressure, 2024) and Megan Gjordeni (planned doctoral work on stroke biomarkers).
