Charif Shanahan is an Assistant Professor of English at Northwestern University, specializing in poetry and creative writing. He holds an AB in Comparative Literature from Princeton University, an AM in Comparative Literature from Dartmouth College, and an MFA in Poetry from NYU. His research explores mixed-race identity, queer desire, and postcolonial legacies. Shanahan's work has been published in prominent journals like The New Yorker and The Paris Review, and anthologized in African American Poetry: 250 Years of Struggle & Song. He has received prestigious awards including the Whiting Award and a Fulbright Senior Scholar Grant to Morocco. Currently completing translations of Italian poetry, he previously taught at Stanford University and the Collegio di Milano.
