Dr. Chao-Yo Cheng is a Lecturer in Quantitative Political and Social Research at Birkbeck, University of London, and Director of its Postgraduate Social Research Programmes. He co-directs the Centre for Political Economy and Institutional Studies and serves as a Research Associate at the Institute for Crime and Justice Policy Research (ICPR). His research focuses on political economy, governance in multi-ethnic societies, and computational methods.
Education: PhD (UCLA), MA (Columbia University), BA (National Chengchi University). Previous roles include fellowships at Tsinghua University and the London School of Economics.
Research interests include comparative authoritarianism, race/ethnicity in politics, and public policy in Asia. Awards include the APSA Asia Fellowship (2021) and grants from Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council (TOP scheme, 2022). Active in professional networks such as the American Political Science Association and British Sociological Association.
