Dr. Chao Fang is a Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Liverpool and holds concurrent roles as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre for Death and Society (CDAS), University of Bath, and Honorary Research Associate at University College London's Institute of Education. His work focuses on ageing, bereavement, death studies, and social policy with cross-cultural perspectives. Fang completed his PhD in Sociology at the University of Bath (2018), MA in Philosophy and Cultural Studies at Hokkaido University (2014), and BA in Japanese Language at Dalian University (2010).
Research interests include multidimensional aspects of ageing, death and dying, qualitative methods, and international collaborations across China, Japan, and Europe. He coordinates the Centre for Ageing and the Life Course and leads transnational research networks on end-of-life care and social policy in the Pacific region. Recent projects include studies on emotional loneliness in retirement communities and tiredness of life in older populations.
