Chao Fang is a Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Liverpool and Deputy Director of the Centre for Ageing and the Life Course (CALC). His work focuses on ageing, chronic illness, death, dying, and bereavement, with an emphasis on existential sociology and cross-cultural perspectives. He also serves as Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Bath’s Centre for Death and Society and Honorary Research Associate at University College London’s Institute of Education.

Public Engagement: Chao contributes to media outlets like The Conversation, addressing topics such as celebrity grief, societal ageing anxiety, and healthcare policy. His work highlights the need for compassionate, human-centered approaches to end-of-life care and chronic illness support.
Grants & Collaborations: Engages in international collaborations (e.g., Japan, China, Belgium) and leads CALC initiatives to advance ageing research. His work on Long COVID’s existential impacts has informed policy briefs and public health strategies.
