Chantal Fiola is an Associate Professor in the Department of Urban and Inner-City Studies and the Associate Vice-President of Indigenous Engagement at the University of Winnipeg. She is Michif (Red River Métis) with family roots in St. Laurent, Ste Geneviève, and Ste. Anne, MB, and is a registered citizen of the Manitoba Métis Federation. Previously, she held the Distinguished Indigenous Scholar’s Chair from 2021 to 2024.
Dr. Fiola specializes in Indigenous Studies with research focusing on Métis spirituality, decolonization, Indigenous feminisms, and community-centred methodologies. Her work explores Métis identity, culture, history, and urban experiences across the Métis homeland, emphasizing Indigenous resurgence and sovereignty. She examines how spirituality functions within contemporary Métis communities through both historical and present-day lenses.
