Tanya Ball (she/her) is a Métis Assistant Professor of Indigenous Studies at Concordia University of Edmonton's Faculty of Arts, Department of Social Sciences. She is a PhD Candidate in Indigenous Studies at the University of Alberta, focusing on Michif storytelling and religious experiences in St. Ambroise. Her academic journey includes a BA (History/Romance Languages), MA (Spanish/Latin American Studies), and MLIS (Indigenous Librarianship).
Research interests span Indigenous storytelling practices, religious/ceremonial experiences, Indigenous erotica, graphic novels, and decolonizing library science. She teaches courses including INDG100 (Introduction to Indigenous Studies), INDG290 (Indigenous Ways of Knowing), and INDG330 (Indigenous Law/Governance).
Her work emphasizes relational pedagogy and community-engaged research, with recent projects exploring podcasting as cultural resurgence and Métis kinscapes at Lac Ste. Anne. She has presented widely on topics like Indigenous librarianship, graphic novels, and death's role in Michif traditions. Collaborations include the Métis Kinscapes Project and initiatives like Neechie Beats music workshops.
