Chanon Kenji Praepipatmongkol is Assistant Professor of Contemporary Art at McGill University, researching modern and contemporary art through lenses of religious modernity, climatic ecologies, and underdevelopment. His work centers on artistic production/reception conditions for the global majority.
Publications examine non-Western modernisms, institutional mediation, and moral economies in art. Articles demonstrate consistent attention to Southeast Asian avant-gardes, postcolonial critique, and exhibition historiographies. Awarded Oxford Art Journal Prize for 2020 essay on David Medalla.
Curatorial experience includes Singapore Art Museum, Tate Britain, and MCA Chicago projects. Research supported by Getty Foundation, Japan Foundation, and Delfina Foundation. Teaching focuses on global contemporary practices and critical curation methodologies.
