Chandra Madramootoo is a Professor at the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, McGill University, specializing in Bioresource Engineering. With a Ph.D. and P.Eng. designation, he has been a Distinguished James McGill Professor since 2022. His research focuses on water management, irrigation systems, drainage technologies, and the impacts of agricultural practices on greenhouse gas emissions.

He pioneered the Brace Centre for Water Resources Management in 1999 and served as Dean for a decade, overseeing significant academic program expansions. His work addresses global food security, climate change adaptation, and sustainable agricultural technologies, including variable rate irrigation systems and water table management solutions.

Madramootoo has supervised over 80 graduate students and authored/co-authored 200+ refereed journal papers. He currently leads the Irrigation and Drainage Lab and remains active in mentoring students. His leadership in international agricultural development and hydrological research has secured funding for large-scale multidisciplinary projects.
