Chanaka Wijewardena

Dr. Chanaka Wijewardena serves as a Lecturer in International Business at the Adelaide Business School within the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics at the University of Adelaide. With over 8 years of experience in higher education, he functions as course coordinator for undergraduate and postgraduate programs and holds leadership positions as program director for both the Master of International Management and Bachelor of Business in International Business degrees.

His academic expertise spans:

• Internationalization processes of SMEs in developing economies
• Micro-foundations of international business decisions
• Export opportunity exploration by SME owner-managers
• Cross-cultural business strategy in emerging markets

Dr. Wijewardena's research program focuses on understanding how domestic SMEs in developing countries navigate international markets, with particular emphasis on Sri Lanka as a case study. His scholarly work has been presented at prestigious international conferences including the Academy of International Business and the British Academy of Management. As an early-career researcher, he has published in the specialized areas of international entrepreneurship and SME global expansion.

He is eligible to supervise Masters and PhD candidates in international business topics. Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Wijewardena gained international teaching experience as a teaching assistant at Monash Business School in Melbourne and as a senior lecturer at the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka.
