Dr Cerith Waters is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology at Cardiff University and a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with extensive clinical and academic experience in perinatal mental health, developmental psychopathology, and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). She has held clinical leadership roles in NHS perinatal and child mental health services across Wales and contributes to teaching and supervision at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Research Interests:
Dr Waters's research focuses on understanding the impact of maternal mental health on child development, particularly in the perinatal period. She investigates how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), antenatal and postnatal depression, and anxiety influence developmental outcomes in children. Her work also explores the efficacy of psychological interventions, especially Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), in perinatal and child mental health contexts. She has conducted systematic reviews and feasibility studies to evaluate therapeutic approaches and service delivery models.
Clinical and Academic Roles:
She has served as Clinical Lead Psychologist in several NHS services, including the Perinatal Community Mental Health Service at Cardiff & Vale UHB and the Gwent Parent-Infant Mental Health Service. She is actively involved in teaching and supervision, contributing to the Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology and the MSc in Childhood Psychological Disorders.
