معرفی
Associate Professor Cecilia Prele is a Principal Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia's School of Biomedical Sciences, with dual appointments in the Centre for Respiratory Health (UWA Medical School) and Pathology and Laboratory Science. She completed her PhD in Biochemistry at University College London in 2001, followed by postdoctoral research at Guy's, St Thomas' and King's College London before relocating to Perth.
Her research focuses on molecular mechanisms of disease pathogenesis, particularly:
- Signal transduction pathways in pulmonary fibrosis and tissue remodeling
- Lung repair and regeneration mechanisms
- Multipotent nature of mesothelial cells in serosal repair
- Inflammatory drivers of fibrotic progression
Her recent publications (2018-2023) demonstrate consistent focus on fibrosis mechanisms across pulmonary, cochlear and systemic contexts, utilizing molecular biology techniques, genetic analyses, and advanced imaging modalities. Research frequently involves international collaborations and examines therapeutic targets.
She leads multiple funded projects including:
- 'Epithelial-Mesenchymal cell communication: towards new therapeutic targets for fibrosis' (NHMRC, 2017-2021)
- 'STAT3 Regulation of Cell Responses in IPF' (NHMRC, 2014-2017)
- 'BARD1 mediator of TGFβ signaling in lung fibrosis' (WA Health, 2017-2018)
As Principal Investigator, she oversees research at the Centre for Respiratory Health and collaborates with national/international teams on pulmonary and regenerative medicine projects.
