Professor Yuben Moodley is a distinguished academic and researcher at The University of Western Australia Medical School, where he serves in the Department of Internal Medicine. He is an active consultant Respiratory Physician at Fiona Stanley Hospital and holds leadership positions including Deputy Director of the Institute of Respiratory Health.
Professor Moodley is a world-renowned expert in pulmonary fibrosis and interstitial lung diseases. His research focuses on cellular therapy for lung disease, lung fibrosis, and regenerative medicine. He has conducted seminal studies including the first-ever research on signal transduction through the interleukin-6 receptor in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), and pioneering work using stem cells from human umbilical cord and placental amnion cells to treat animal models of lung diseases. His current research investigates circulating monocytes in IPF progression, biomarker levels in patients on antifibrotics, miRNA profiling in extracellular vesicles, and spatial transcriptomics of early lung injury.
Professor Moodley serves as Senior Editor for Respirology, a major journal in the field with an impact factor of 6.4. He is actively involved in developing clinical guidelines as a member of writing teams for Thoracic Society of Australia New Zealand Australasian guideline documents on interstitial lung diseases. He also serves on the inaugural national steering committee of the Australian Lung Foundation.
