Cecilia Landa-Avila is an Assistant Professor in Systemic Design at the School of Design and Creative Arts. Her work focuses on addressing global societal challenges through Systems Thinking, particularly in healthcare equity and systemic inequalities. She holds a PhD in Health Systems Design from Loughborough University, an MSc in Ergonomics in Design, and a BA in Industrial Design from the University of Guadalajara. Her research integrates participatory approaches to navigate value conflicts and drive systemic change.
Key projects include DECODE (NIHR), IMMUNE (UKRI/AHRC), and Powering Productivity (UKRI/ESRC), applying systems-oriented methodologies to healthcare systems. Externally, she serves on the International Advisory Council of the Design Research Society (DRS) and co-founded RELAESA, a Latin American Ergonomics Network. As EDI Co-Director, she promotes equity, diversity, and inclusivity in research and education.
Her academic background spans industry and government roles as a User Experience Researcher and Designer for Public Social Services. Her work bridges design theory and practice, emphasizing stakeholder collaboration and outcome-driven solutions in healthcare systems.
