She holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Wildland Resource Science from the University of California, Berkeley (2000 and 1991), and a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Williams College (1983). Dr. Danks teaches courses such as Community-Based Conservation, Sustainable Forest Certification, and Intermediate Environmental Studies. She advises graduate students in three concentrations: Environment, Society and Public Affairs (ESPA), Forest and Wildlife Sciences (FWS), and Environment, Thought and Culture (ETC). Her work emphasizes equity and sustainability in climate policies, forest carbon dynamics, and socio-technical systems for renewable energy.
Her research has explored community-level socioeconomic monitoring, wildfire management, and the role of policy in advancing sustainable heating technologies. She has collaborated on projects in the U.S. and internationally, including the Ukrainian Carpathians. Funding for her research depends on pending grants, which students can inquire about directly.
