Professor Catheryn Khoo is a distinguished academic and researcher at Torrens University Australia's Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School (BMIHMS), specializing in tourism, gender equality, and cross-cultural consumer behavior. She holds a PhD in Marketing and is Editor-in-Chief of Tourism Management Perspectives. Her work bridges academia and industry, with a focus on empowering women in tourism through policy, education, and inclusive practices.
Dr. Khoo’s research spans gender equality in tourism workforces, women’s travel experiences, and heritage tourism’s role in societal inclusion. She has authored over 100 publications, co-edited books for Springer, and advised UN agencies like UNWTO. Notable contributions include the UNWTO Global Report on Women in Tourism and founding Women Academics in Tourism (WAiT).
Her current initiatives include Contested HERitage, aiming to reshape public historical narratives to better reflect marginalized voices. She advocates for gender diversity in leadership and integrates industry insights into teaching, emphasizing data-driven decision-making for students.
Awards include the 2023 Stanford Elsevier Top 2% Scientists and Travel Weekly’s Women in Travel Awards. She collaborates globally, with projects funded by Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and serves as a UN consultant and advisor to World Women Tourism.
