Catherine Properzi is a Lecturer in Nutrition Bioscience at the School of Medical and Health Sciences, Edith Cowan University (ECU). With over 20 years of experience as an Accredited Practising Dietitian, she specializes in clinical nutrition and holds membership in the Dietitians Association of Australia. She is currently completing her PhD on the application of Mediterranean diets in treating non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Her educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy (2024), Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics (2009), and Bachelor of Science (Honours) Class 1 (1998), all from Australian institutions. Her research focuses on dietary interventions for NAFLD, Mediterranean diet efficacy, and methodologies like indirect calorimetry for energy requirement assessment.
Notable achievements include winning ECU’s 3MT competition and advancing to the Asia-Pacific semi-finals (2016). Her work has been supported by grants such as the ECU Collaboration Enhancement Scheme (2017–2019) for investigating nutrition’s role in Alzheimer’s disease markers. She teaches courses like NUT5112 (Nutrients and Metabolism) and NUT5115 (Nutritional Biochemistry).
