Dr. Catherine Nicholson is Professor of English at Yale University, specializing in early modern English literature and its reception histories. Her research examines texts that challenge conventional literary values and explores the historical development of vernacular poetics.
She is the author of award-winning publications including 'Uncommon Tongues: Eloquence and Eccentricity in the English Renaissance' (recipient of Yale's Heyman Prize) and 'Reading and Not Reading The Faerie Queene: Spenser and the Making of Literary Criticism'. Her current research project, 'The Renaissance Before Reading', investigates early literacy, printed books, and the conceptualization of early modernity.
Nicholson teaches courses on Spenser, Shakespeare, Ovidian traditions, and Renaissance theatrical works. Her critical writings also appear in publications like the London Review of Books and New York Review of Books.
