Catherine Moore is a Teaching Professor at the School of Drama, Carnegie Mellon University, where she has been on faculty since 2000. She specializes in physical approaches to actor training and promotes self-generated artistic work by students. Moore co-founded and advises PLAYGROUND: A Festival of Independent Student Work, and has served as Fight Choreographer or Movement Director for over 85 productions.
- Teaches Viewpoints, Laban, Suzuki, and Stage Combat
- Conducted international workshops at New National Theatre Tokyo, Korzo Theatre Netherlands, and META Florence
Research & Practice focuses on physicality in performance, with interdisciplinary applications to orchestral concerts and classical theater. She integrates movement methodologies into acting pedagogy and directs performance projects.
Awards:
- William H. and Francis S. Ryan Award for Meritorious Teaching (2023)
- Julia Winter Cohen Alumni Award for Career Excellence
Moore has collaborated with Chicago, Boston, and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestras on narrated concert adaptations, and maintains affiliations with Actors Equity Association and Society of American Fight Directors.
