Associate Professor Catherine Michelle Bond is a legal scholar at the University of New South Wales, Faculty of Law & Justice. She holds the academic rank of Associate Professor and has established herself as an expert in intellectual property law with specializations in copyright history, Australian legal history, and the relationship between law and war in Australia.
Her educational background includes a BMedia LLB (Hons 1) from Macquarie University and a PhD from UNSW. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated exceptional dedication to legal scholarship and academic leadership.
Bond's research spans diverse topics from Crown copyright to the legal regulation of the word 'Anzac', with notable publications including analyses of plain packaging of tobacco products and even the introduction of a patent system in the fictional world of Game of Thrones. Her scholarly work bridges theoretical legal frameworks with practical applications in contemporary society.
Her publications include two significant books that have garnered substantial attention: Law in War: Freedom and Restriction in Australia During the Great War (2020) and Anzac: The Landing, The Legend, The Law (2016). These works have been positively reviewed in major publications including The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Canberra Times, and Australian Book Review.
