Andrew Christie is the foundation Chair of Intellectual Property at Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne, with academic qualifications including BSc and LLB (Hons) from the University of Melbourne, LLM from the University of London, and PhD from the University of Cambridge. He maintains professional accreditation in Australia and the United Kingdom.
His research focuses on intellectual property law across domains including copyright, patents, trade secrets, and domain name disputes. Christie has secured 12 Australian Research Council grants and over $11 million in research funding, producing more than 120 publications. His scholarship examines intellectual property systems, dispute resolution mechanisms, and regulatory frameworks.
Professor Christie has served on multiple Australian government advisory committees including the Copyright Law Review Committee and Advisory Council on Intellectual Property. He chairs the Trans-Tasman IP Attorneys Board and has advised the World Intellectual Property Organization. As a trained arbitrator and mediator, he handles intellectual property disputes for institutions including the WIPO Arbitration Center.
