Associate Professor Catherine Bond is a legal scholar specializing in intellectual property law, legal history, and the intersection of law and war. She holds a BMedia LLB (Hons 1st Class) from Macquarie University and a PhD from UNSW Sydney. Currently affiliated with the School of Law, Society & Criminology at UNSW, she has served in leadership roles such as Associate Dean (Academic) in the Faculty of Law & Justice (2021–2023) and Acting Deputy President of the UNSW Academic Board (2022–2023). Her research explores topics including Crown copyright, plain packaging of tobacco products, and the legal legacy of wartime Australia. Notable publications include Law in War: Freedom and Restriction in Australia During the Great War (2020) and Anzac: The Landing, The Legend, The Law (2016), which have been featured in media outlets like ABC Radio National and The Sydney Morning Herald. She teaches courses on intellectual property, legal ethics, and law in cultural industries. In 2025, she will serve as Visiting Professor in Australian Studies at the University of Tokyo.
Her research has been supported by grants including an Australian Research Council Discovery Project on the history of Australian copyright law (2014–2016) and a LIEF Grant for the Australasian Legal History Libraries initiative. She has also held editorial roles for Legal History and the Media & Arts Law Review. Her work frequently bridges legal scholarship with public discourse, addressing contemporary issues such as the regulation of historical symbols and emergency powers.
