Catherine Mackintosh is a Lecturer in Human Resource Management at the Department of Business and Management within the Faculty of Business and Law at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). She returned to academia in 2016 after extensive experience in generalist HR roles across organizations in Bristol and Bath. She completed her ESRC-funded PhD in Business and Management at Cardiff Business School in 2021.
Research Interests: Her research adopts a critical perspective on the employment relationship, focusing on idiosyncratic deals (i-deals), organizational justice, flexibility, and the dynamics between employees, managers, co-workers, and HR professionals. She is particularly interested in how individualized work arrangements impact fairness and retention, as evidenced by her 2023 research on nurse retention funded by the Professor Mick Marchington Applied Research Grant.
Publication Trends: Her recent publications explore both theoretical and empirical dimensions of HRM, combining critical theory with organizational behavior research. The works emphasize stakeholder perspectives, ethical implications of flexible work arrangements, and foundational theories in HRM research.

Teaching and Professional Recognition: She teaches HRM, organizational behaviour, business management, and research methodologies at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
