Catherine M. Wright is a Term Associate Professor and the Undergraduate BA Program Director in the Department of Communication at George Mason University, part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. She teaches a range of courses including Communication Theory, Public Speaking, and Mass Media Theory, and leads the Italian Media, Society, and Culture study abroad program in Milan.
Her research interests include the use of technology in communication, digital media, and how students apply communication skills beyond the classroom. She has been deeply involved in curriculum development, academic advising innovation, and student support systems.
Dr. Wright has been recognized for her scholarly contributions, notably receiving the Committee of Scholars Award from the Eastern Communication Association in 2008. She is also active in NACADA and contributes to university governance through service on the CHSS Student Policies and Appeals Committee and the Senate Academic Appeals Committee.
She earned her PhD from Regent University in 2005 with a dissertation on digital piracy and music downloading, an MA in Mass Communication from Texas Tech University, and a BS in Business Communication from Phillips University. Her advising leadership has included designing training programs and improving student-advisor communication.
Dr. Wright is conversational in Italian, a certified scuba diver, and passionate about travel and wine. She continues to contribute significantly to academic life at GMU through teaching, administration, and professional engagement.
