Catherine M. Sharkey is the Segal Family Professor of Regulatory Law and Policy at NYU School of Law. She specializes in business torts, administrative law, and the intersection of artificial intelligence with legal frameworks. Her research addresses federal preemption of state tort law, punitive damages, and products liability, with a focus on emerging technologies like AI.
Education: BA (Economics) from Yale University (summa cum laude, 1992); MSc (Economics for Development) from Oxford University (with distinction, 1994); JD from Yale Law School (1997). She clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice David H. Souter and U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Guido Calabresi.
