Catharina Lavebratt is a Principal Researcher (Docent/Associate Professor) at the Translational Psychiatry research group within the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery, Karolinska Institutet. Her work bridges psychiatric genetics, immunology, and metabolic disorders, focusing on early risk factors and treatment outcomes in conditions like ADHD, bipolar disorder, and anorexia nervosa.
Her research integrates epidemiological, clinical, and experimental approaches, including nation-wide registries and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for probiotic therapies. She is a leader in international consortia for psychiatric genetics and serves as Director of doctoral education at her department.
- Academic focus areas: medical genetics, immune-mental health links, metabolic comorbidities
- Key projects: ADHD probiotic trials, lithium response biomarkers, prenatal risk factors
From 2020–2025, her publications address gut-brain axis mechanisms, genetic predictors of treatment response, and inflammation-metabolism interplay in mental illness. She collaborates with core facilities like KIGene for genetic and spatial profiling.
Supervision: Mentored 12 graduated PhD students and currently supervises 2 PhD candidates and 2 postdoctoral fellows. Leadership: Research group director, doctoral education director, and CMM steering member.
