Cassandra Fenton is an Associate Professor of Geology at Colorado Mesa University. She specializes in Earth-surface processes, employing geochemical, geochronological, and geospatial analysis to study landscape evolution linked to climate change and tectonics. Her work emphasizes field-based research, including international projects in the western U.S., Norway, and Argentina.

Research focuses on cosmogenic nuclide production rates (e.g., SPICE project) and their application to dating volcanic events and erosion processes. Recent work includes refining exposure dating techniques for Quaternary fault systems and reinterpreting stratigraphic formations in Colorado.
Teaching spans Applied Geochemistry, Climate Change Science, and field-based geology courses. Her pedagogical approach integrates hands-on field studies with classroom instruction.
Advising and grants: Principal Investigator of the SPICE project (focusing on Arizona’s 72 ka SP basalt flow) and co-PI on stable isotope precipitation studies. Her research portfolio includes over 30 peer-reviewed articles.
