Dr Cassandra Byrnes is a Lecturer in the School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry at the University of Queensland, specializing in gender and sexuality histories with a focus on reproductive rights and control. Her research explores reproductive coercion, consent discourses, and bodily autonomy in Australia's recent past.

Her current project examines reproductive coercion in Australia and its legal and social implications. Dr Byrnes supervises PhD students in the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences and serves as principal or associate advisor on topics like Queensland's political history and institutional child sexual abuse. She has received prestigious scholarships and fellowships, including the National Library of Australia Summer Scholar and Global Change Scholar awards.
