Professor Lisa Featherstone is a leading Australian historian at the University of Queensland, serving as Head of the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. Her research intersects sexuality, medicine, and law, focusing on sexual violence, gender studies, and Australian cultural/social history. She has authored two monographs, including the NSW Premier’s Prize-shortlisted Sex Crimes in the 1950s (2016).
- Co-PI on ARC Discovery Project: 'Sexual Offences, Legal Responses and Public Perceptions: 1880s-1980s'
- Supervises PhD candidates in areas like institutional child sexual abuse and reproductive health history
- Contributed 30+ journal articles and book chapters to Gender and History, Social History of Medicine, and Cambridge World History of Sexualities
Her 2024 Palgrave Macmillan book The Limits of Consent examines affirmative consent frameworks. Current research includes 'Responding to Sexual Harm: An Australian Historical Criminology Approach' (2023-2027) and 'Hello, Mr America: Americans on R&R Leave in Australia' (2023-2026).
