Prof. Caryn West is a Professor and Deputy Director at James Cook University (JCU), serving as the newly appointed Dean of Research for JCU Singapore. She plays a key role in establishing the Tropical Futures Institute's research pillar focused on healthy aging and non-communicable diseases in Singapore. As Deputy Head of Discipline in Nursing and Midwifery, she holds significant administrative responsibilities.
Her research interests converge on disaster management, nursing education, and addressing alcohol-related injuries in Australian Indigenous communities, all framed through the lens of resilience. Prof. West maintains an international profile, collaborating with Asia Pacific and Western Pacific nations. She serves on the executive committee of the Western Pacific Region of the Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centres for Nursing and Midwifery, and chairs the Asia Pacific Emergency Disaster Nurses Network (APEDNN).
Prof. West’s awards include an NHMRC Early Career Fellowship and leadership of the WHOCC for Nursing and Midwifery Education. Her work emphasizes global health capacity building, particularly in disaster response and Indigenous health equity.
