Dr. Sarah Larkins is a Professor of Health Systems Strengthening and Dean of the College of Medicine and Dentistry at James Cook University (JCU). She leads research and academic initiatives focused on rural and Indigenous health, social accountability in education, and healthcare equity. Her roles include Co-Director of the Anton Breinl Research Centre and membership in national and international health committees such as the NHMRC Research Committee and WHO Technical Working Groups.
Education: MBBS (University of Melbourne), PhD (JCU), MPH&TM (JCU), FRACGP Fellowships. She has supervised 21 PhD completions and currently mentors 14 HDR students.
Research Interests: Rural health workforce development, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, telemedicine, and participatory healthcare models. Over 170 peer-reviewed articles, h-index 35, $97M+ in grants (including NHMRC/MRFF).
Awards: Office of Learning and Teaching Award, finalist in Ron Harden Innovation Award, numerous citations for contributions to Indigenous health and medical education.
Grants: Current NHMRC/MRFF grants focus on health equity, Indigenous workforce strengthening, and rural healthcare planning. Notable projects include 'STRIDE' (Indigenous health equity) and 'LEAP' (quality improvement in Indigenous health).
