Carwyn Graves is a Lecturer in Welsh Food Heritage and Culture at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. He leads curriculum development for sustainable food studies at Tir Glas and actively contributes to civil society initiatives in Wales, such as chairing the Bwyd Sir Gâr Food Partnership. His work bridges academic research and public engagement through media appearances and writing on national platforms.
Education: MA (Oxon) from the University of Oxford. Research interests focus on Welsh food history, vernacular food cultures in Western Europe, apple cultivation, sustainable agriculture, and the history of the Welsh landscape. He is an award-winning author, with his 2022 book Welsh Food Stories recognized as the 'best food policy book' by BBC Radio 4.
Publications include Apples of Wales (2018), Tir: The Tale of the Welsh Landscape (in progress), and peer-reviewed articles in journals like Y Traethodydd and O’r Pedwar Gwynt. His keynotes include the Wales Real Food and Farming Conference (2020) and the Cymmrodorion Eisteddfod Lecture (2024).
Grants and collaborations are centered on heritage preservation and sustainable food systems. He advises on policy through his roles with the Welsh heritage apples working group and national media engagements.
