Angharad Price is Professor of Welsh at Bangor University's School of Welsh, appointed Senior Lecturer in 2006 and promoted to Professor in 2014. Her dual career bridges academic scholarship in Welsh literature and award-winning creative writing, with research focusing on Welsh-European literary connections across historical periods.
Her educational background includes:
- DPhil in Celtic Studies, University of Oxford (1995-1998)
- BA in Modern Languages, University of Oxford (1990-1994)
Professor Price's research examines Welsh prose, creative writing, comparative literature, Renaissance influences, and translation studies within European contexts. She explores synergies between Welsh literary traditions and broader European movements, particularly modernism and contemporary developments. Her scholarly work frequently addresses cultural identity, language politics, and transnational literary exchange.
Recent publications (2023-2024) demonstrate sustained engagement with Wales' European connections through academic monographs like Gororion: Llen Cymru yng Nghyfandir Ewrop and creative works including the novel Nelan a Bo and WWI drama Congrinero. These outputs reveal consistent thematic threads: linguistic identity, historical memory, and Wales' place within continental European discourse.
Her major recognitions include:
- Wales Book of the Year (2003)
- University of Wales Sir Ellis Griffith Prize (2014)
- Glyndwr Medal (2014)
- Wales Theatre Awards: Best Playwright (2017)
- Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales (2015)
- Multiple Wales Book of the Year shortlistings (2011, 2014, 2022, 2024)
Professor Price has supervised 12 PhD students to completion as primary supervisor across Welsh Literature, Creative Writing, and Translation Studies, with additional co-supervision and current candidates. She serves on editorial boards for O'r Pedwar Gwynt and Transactions of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion, and holds trustee positions with the Books Council of Wales and Learned Society of Wales.
She remains actively engaged in Wales' cultural ecosystem through media contributions, public lectures, and ongoing creative projects including the 2025 tour of Congrinero, demonstrating continued scholarly and artistic productivity.
