Mary-Ann Constantine

Professor Mary-Ann Constantine is a faculty member at Aberystwyth University's Welsh Department and Project Leader at the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies (CAWCS). She holds a BA from Clare College, Cambridge, and a PhD in Breton folklore.

Her research spans the literature and history of Wales and Celtic-speaking countries (1700–1900), with a focus on the Bardic Revival, travel writing, and historical authenticity. She leads the Ports, Past and Present project, funded by the European Regional Development Fund, which examines Irish Sea port towns, and the Curious Travellers initiative on Thomas Pennant's Welsh and Scottish tours.

Her work also explores Wales's responses to the French Revolution and Romantic-era literary forgeries, including James Macpherson and Iolo Morganwg. She has published two short story collections (The Breathing, All the Souls) and a novel (Star-Shot).
